OVOID
Solo Exhibition
at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok
Char took inspiration from taking a deep dive into questioning the elliptical shapes that made appearances in the works of her previous collection. Not only were these elements a byproduct of her artistic expression but also a substantial element that held an implication linked to the artist’s unaddressed issues in regards to her past.

The unidentified elliptical elements that made an appearance in every piece featured in the Evince collection consisted of layers upon layers of oval shapes, the variation of colors and size. These ellipses were painted on many of the works unbeknownst to the artist herself. With determination to discover the significance, the artist then began her quest by paying a visit to an art therapist friend who lived in New York, and that was how the answer of the reoccurring elliptical symbol in her works unfolded. These elliptical shapes illustrated the unaddressed, deeply rooted trauma accumulated from the experiences from the past relationships. The multiple layers made of repetitive paintings signified the time spent in the process to become aware and grounded in the present. Thus, to memorialize the artist’s life journey that leads her to being grateful for the given moment of now, Char took her inspirations from her artistic and personal journey to create her latest collection, Ovoid.

This collection, Ovoid, signifies the transformation after a prolonged period of self-exploration. It is a shift towards embracing the present through confronting the past wounds, a lingering shadow of the past, in order to be conscious of the present moment. The fundamental idea of living each and every day fully and mindfully is essential in order to achieve a fulfilling life, the life that allows deep connections to blossom and flourish organically.

Mixed media with projection mapping, in collaboration with XD49 Limited
In order to simulate the practice of being grounded in the present moment, Char uses her painting techniques on this mixed media piece, “Right Over”. The elliptical paintings are displayed on a ceiling with an overlay of an elliptical-shaped moving motion using projection mapping technique as well as elliptical ring objects made with natural materials with a red bean that the visitors can lie down on to look at the ceiling projection piece. The elliptical piece work placed on the ceiling serves as a sensory stimulation that pulls visitors’ focus onto their internal mental realm in order to be grounded in the present moment. On the other hand, the bags filled with organic beans further amplifies the physical awareness of the external environment, and also to simulate the sensation of lying on the land in nature. The whole experience is created to signify the middle point where the physical and the mental meet, the balance between the external and the internal realms that exist in the present reality. It is to become aware of everything that is happening at the present moment.

Oil on elliptical shaped canvas
The oil color paintings are created using a technique that the artist has never used before in her previous collections. The artist designed each elliptical piece to have a distinct shape that differentiates from one another. Some are made in layers that bear a resemblance to relief sculpture. The multiple layers in each of the elliptical shapes hold significance as they represent the depth and the complexity of personal relationships and connections that individuals cultivate at one point in time. No matter how long they last, all these bonds humans build and nourish are what the artist believes to be the essence of a life fully lived. These paintings allow for a deeper appreciation of every relationship that seeks to exist in our life up to the present time.

Mixed media of oil on canvas and sculpture
This section consists of two small paintings of an elliptical shape which include sculptural elements in the paintings. The first piece, Soul’s trapped, is placed at the eyesight level and is covered by a transparent mouth-blown glass piece. Inside, a small thick elliptical canvas painted with multiple layers of oil color is placed. It is to illustrate the life that is overshadowed by the lingering past. The outer part that is made with a mouth-blown glass piece symbolizes a filter, our trapped perception or inability to perceive the past objectively. The second piece, The deepest soul, is placed lower than the eyesight level. It is another elliptical shaped oil on canvas that resembles the elliptical ornament from the first piece. The artist intends for these two elliptical shaped pieces to symbolize the past where this smaller piece is the past that is perceived without any filter, or human’s trapped mind. The past that serves as something that already happened and ended, the past that we already take lessons from, and can no longer bind us from living in the moment fully.

OVOID Art Tasting
In collaboration with Chef Roberto Parentela of Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, Char presents a unique tasting experience inspired by artwork. Each canapé is thoughtfully designed to reflect the colors, textures, and shapes of the art, with carefully selected ingredients that bring the vision to life. The chef adds surprise elements to enhance the flavors, meticulously layering each component by hand. For the final dish, guests become artists themselves, using a butter knife as a palette knife to create their own dessert.
